We’ve been excited about the South African tech scene for some time now. Ever since we had the opportunity to be a part of ScaleConf back in January, we’ve noticed a flurry of Riak activity in places like Cape Town and Johannesburg, and the growth has been great to watch.

On that note, Basho is pleased to announce that we’re sponsoring this year’s PyCon ZA, happening in dreamy Cape Town from October 4-5. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to send any Riak developers or Evangelists to this as we’ll be busy with RICON, taking place in San Francisco the following week.

So, we need some local help to ensure that attendees get their fill of Riak information, knowledge, and swag. Specifically, we’re looking for Riak Ambassadors. Basho will pay your way into the conference. In return, you make sure attendees know about Riak and why they might want to run it in production.

Your Responsibilities

  • First and foremost, be excited and knowledgeable about Riak. This doesn’t mean you have to run it in production, but if someone sees your Riak t-shirt and asks “Why is that better than Hadoop?”, you should know the answer. (And we’re of course happy to spend some time educating you if you think that’s necessary.)
  • Ensure that the Riak and Basho swag we ship to conference makes it into the hands and hearts of attendees.

What You’ll Receive

  • A free ticket to PyConZA. We’ll sponsor up to three Ambassadors.
  • A limited edition swag pack, including enough Riak T-shirts to wear for the duration of the event and some glassware for your cabinets.
  • Praise and adoration from your fellow developers as you’ll be representing the best distributed database available today.

That’s it. You just need to be excited about Riak and make sure that PyCon ZA attendees are excited about it, too. If you’re interested in helping spread the word about Riak at PyCon ZA (or anywhere else for that matter), email mark@basho.com. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
