QCon is happening this week in San Francisco, with the tutorials taking place today and tomorrow, and the conference proper running Wednesday through Friday. Basho is huge supporter of what QCon is all about, and we came on board this year as a Platinum Sponsor because of it. In addition to our sponsorship involvement, there are a few talks, panels, and events that fans of Riak, Erlang, and distributed systems should plan to attend.
Talks, Panels, and Tracks
- Andy Gross, Basho’s Principal Architect, will be giving a talk on Wednesday called Riak Use Cases: Dissecting the Solutions to Hard Problems. If you’re using Riak or need convincing why you or your colleagues might want to, this is not to be missed.
- Andy will also be taking part in a NOSQL Applications Panel scheduled for Friday afternoon. Bring your tomatoes.
- Basho Architect Steve Vinoski will be talking about Webmachine on Wednesday afternoon as part of the Functional Web track. This talk should be particularly compelling for any fans of HTTP, REST, and Web Application Development. (Steve is also the host of this track, so be sure to check out the other talks.)
- Steve is also heading up the Systems that never stop track.
- And, just when you thought he couldn’t fit anything else on his plate, Steve is giving a talk about Erlang on Friday morning as part of the “New Languages changing your world!” track. (The talk is not yet listed on the site but should be happening at 10:35.)
- Bob Ippolito, CTO/Co-Founder of Mochi Media, long-time Riak User, and Erlang Expert, is giving a talk called Eventually consistent HTTP services with statebox. (Astute followers of Riak will recall that statebox is the library that Bob and the team at Mochi use in production with Riak.)
Booths, Parties, Etc.
There will be a Basho booth complete with Riak SWAG and various members of the Basho Team located on the exhibitor’s floor.
More importantly, Basho is throwing a party on Thursday night. This will be kicking off at 6PM and is taking place in the Moscone Suite of the Westin, all the way up on the 33rd floor. Follow @basho for more details on the event. It will be a good time.
Also, if you find yourself in town for the event and need a desk or office for a few hours, BashoWest is very close to the venue and we can probably accommodate with enough notice. Email mark@basho.com if this is you.
